In the parliament of Lithuania on Thursday, April 25, a final vote is planned on the issue of extending national sanctions against citizens of Russia and Belarus, LRT.
On the agenda, a discussion of the issue of whether the Russians and Belarusians who are traveling in the Russian Federation and Belarus will be more than once every three months are deprived of temporary residence permissions in Lithuania.
On Tuesday, the Sejm rejected the proposals to impose such a sanction against citizens of Russia and Belarus.
The exception for trips is proposed more than once to apply to members of international crews, sailors, cargo carriers, as well as in the case of objective reasons without depending on a person.
The authors of the amendments are based on sanctions on the assessment of Lithuanian special services that when traveling to Russia and Belarus, faces are at risk of being recruited by the special services of these countries.
in question in the Sejm, the project also provides for additional restrictive measures for Russians and Belarusians.
The government proposes to establish in the updated law that in cases of the arrival of Belarusian citizens on the Schengen visa, the risk of threat to public order, domestic security, health of the population or international relations created by their arrival.
In addition, the project stipulates that those Russians and Belarusians who deliberately and publicly systematically disseminate false information that contradict the interests of society or the state will also lose their temporary residence permit in Lithuania, as well as if they publicly support the crime of aggression recognized by the UN documents or decisions of international courts, which violates the UN Charter.
They want to adjust the ban on the purchase of real estate in Lithuania with a new project, in particular from the citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus, who do not have a temporary or permanent residence permit in Lithuania.
In addition, it is proposed to prohibit the import of agricultural products and feed of Russian or Belarusian origin into Lithuania.
A specific list of prohibited products and feed will be approved by the Government.
It is expected that the law on national sanctions will be valid until May 2, 2025.
The government proposed to extend restrictive measures for Russians and Belarusians against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict and preserving the reasons why this law was adopted last year.
According to the law adopted last year, Russians and Belarusians are limited in the possibility of obtaining Lithuanian visas and the status of an electronic resident.
The possibility of Russian citizens to come to Lithuania and acquire real estate is even more complicated, as well as their applications for a residence permit in Lithuania are temporarily not accepted.
According to the Department of Migration, at the moment, a residence permit in Lithuania has 62 thousand 884 citizens of Belarus and 15 thousand 678 citizens of Russia.
