Lithuania Plans To Introduce Rotational Model Of Air Defense

Lithuania plans to introduce the rotational model of air defense (air defense) by the fall of 2028. This was reported by local media with reference to the statement of the Vice Minister of Defense of Lithuania Thomas Godlyauskas.

“The goal is to ensure that by 2028 it was a constant mission of air defense as a mission of the air police in the Baltic,” said Godlyauskas.

According to the Vice-Office, this will depend not only on Lithuania, but also on the leadership of NATO.

At the Summit of the Alliance held in Vilnius in 2024, the Sanizer countries agreed on the model of rotational air defense.

The purpose of the project is to ensure an almost continuous rotation of allied air defense systems in the Baltic countries.

At the moment, the Netherlands and Italy have contributed to the rotational model of air defense in Lithuania.

In July 2024, the Netherlands sent to the Baltic state a Patriot high-range anti-aircraft missile systems

In February of the same year, Italy has launched the ground-based SAMP/T large-range anti-aircraft missile systems for teachings in the country.

Allies fighters mainly perform patrol functions.
