Lithuania intends to increase mine capacities and considers the possibility of producing mines on its territory.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense Laurinas Kashnas, commenting on the development of the country’s defense potential, reports LRT.
“The most important and resource -intensive, but the most effective is the development, strengthening and acquisition of mine potential,” said Kashnas at a press conference in the government.
According to him, Lithuania already purchases mines and plans to continue them next year. For ten years, it is planned to spend 600 million euros with counterobvision expense, mainly on mines.
“The main emphasis is on the acquisition of terrestrial anti -tank mines, as well as various types of antifobe and bottom mines, since it is not only about terrestrial, but also about sea mines,” the head of the department added.
The Minister also noted that Lithuania is negotiating with domestic enterprises about the possibility of mining in the country.
“We are discussing with our industry the possibility of creating a Lithuanian mine, perhaps simpler, but effective,” said Kashnas.
The minister also said that some companies have already expressed their readiness to do this, and in August meetings are planned to discuss the prospects for the production of Lithuanian mines.
