The Lithuanian Railway (LTG Cargo) resumed from July 22 transit to the Kaliningrad region of Russia goods included in the sanctions list of the European Union. This was stated by the representative of the railway Mantas Dubauskas.
“We received an explanation. The European commission provided them on July 20: the transit of sanctions goods by rail is allowed, while road transport is banned,” DW quotes it.
The European Commission on July 13 published additional instructions for the EU member states on the transit of goods from Russia, where it allowed the movement of some sunsances to the Kaliningrad region by rail.
Member States can control the volume of transit, focusing on the average for the last three years, as well as limit “unusual flows of goods or trade schemes”.
In addition, the member states must ensure that the sanctions goods that are transit do not fall into the EU territory. The European Commission emphasizes that they will be liable in case of sanctions.
