Lithuania Ministry of Internal Affairs instructed the Department of Migration (DM) to ensure uninterrupted issuance of a residence permit to military refugees from Ukraine, according to the LRT portal with reference to the statement of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladislav Kondratovich.
The head of the diplomatic mission said that military refugees from Ukraine are faced with difficulties in exchanging a residence permit in Lithuania due to the requirement to present an existing passport.
“Documents giving the right to live in Lithuania to military refugees from Ukraine should be issued or exchanged regardless of whether they have a valid document. DM should take measures to issue temporary types of residence as soon as possible,” said the minister
According to the representative of the UN for refugees, Vladimir Sinov, the regional administrative court ruled that the requirement to present a passport does not apply to persons with temporary protection.
It is reported that currently military refugees from Ukraine can receive a residence permit in Lithuania on the basis of the defense provided by him until March 4, 2026.
From the beginning of the conflict, more than 90 thousand people have arrived in Lithuania. 45 thousand military refugees from Ukraine already have a valid residence permit.
