Lithuania will build a military town for the placement of the German brigade at the training ground near the border with Belarus, the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense said.
“After the completion of intensive preparatory work at the Rudninkai training ground, the creation of the largest military infrastructure in the history of Lithuania begins – on this occasion on Monday, August 19, a symbolic ceremony of laying the capsule will be held at the Rudninka training ground,” the message said.
The Ceremony will take part in the Prime Minister of the Republic of Ingrid Shinonite, Minister of National Defense Laurinas Kashnas, commander of the Armed Forces of Lithuania, General Raimundas Vaiknoras and commander of the main division of the German brigade Colonel Andre Khastenrat.
The design and construction of a military town, whose area will be 170 hectares, will be performed by Aycos Statiba CJSC.
The department said that the landfill will become the main for training the Bundeswehr brigade, which will be transferred to Lithuania over the next few years, and the full deployment will end by 2027.
In total, Germany intends to place about 5 thousand military personnel and auxiliary personnel as part of a brigade in the Lithuanian territory.
