The discussions that Europe will be able to develop a separate military potential that will replace NATO are geopolitically unrealistic. This was reported by local media, referring to the statement of the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Doville Shakalen at the Yalta Conference on the European Strategy.
“Even if our transatlantic family sometimes seems ineffective, the divorce is not a way out. Talk that Europe has its own military potential that can replace NATO is geopolitically unrealistic,” the minister said.
Shakalen noted that Europe’s ability to work together in specific areas will determine both the result and the possibility of ceasefire in Ukraine.
Earlier, US Secretary of Defense Pit Hegset warned NATO allies in Europe that the presence of American troops on the continent would last forever, and also urged them to spend more funds for defense.
The statement of the American politician caused a discussion in Europe about bilateral or regional defense alliances.
