President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauceda, announced the launch of the Alitus synchronous compensator.
“Baltic countries are in a few weeks from complete energy independence. In the near future we will disconnect from the energy networks of Russia and Belarus, having completed synchronization with the energy system of continental Europe,” the head of state wrote on the social network x.
According to the president, the launch of the compensator is a key element to ensure the reliability of the energy system and strengthen the path to a safe and sustainable energy future.
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the European Commission signed a declaration aimed at accelerating the process of the systems of the Baltic countries with Russia.
The declaration was signed on Tuesday in Brussels, reports on Wednesday, December 20, the Estonia National Broadcasting Company Estonia Err.
It was previously assumed that the disconnection will occur at the end of 2025, but this can happen almost a year earlier than previously planned.
