Lithuanian President: Defense Financing Should Reach 4% Of GDP

The world is close to disaster, and Lithuania can no longer be considered a safe place.

This is the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda at the ceremony of bringing the oath in the assembly hall of the Sejm in Vilnius on Friday, July 12, reports LRT.

“Climate changes, pandemia and war bring us closer to the edge of the abyss,” the president emphasized, adding that Lithuania should strengthen his defense.

Nauceda announced that defense financing should reach 4 percent of GDP. According to the president, this will develop modern air defense and missile defense systems, as well as strengthen the land borders and conduct joint exercises with the German and American armies.

The politician promised to support Ukraine, strengthen ties with the United States and improve domestic policy, reducing social inequality and supporting families and elderly people.

In the field of the climatic policy of Nauced, he urged Lithuania to become an example for other countries, actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving on to closed production and consumption systems.

Nauceda Gitanas will act as the president until 2029 after winning the elections in May.
