The reason for the exacerbation of relations was the decisions adopted in early March.

US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties on the import of steel and aluminum from all countries, including European.

In response to March 12, the EC stated the intention to introduce response tariffs for symbolic American goods, such as Harley-Davidson motorcycles, jeans and bourbon.

However, after the next day, Trump threatened with 200 percent duties for all wine, champagne and alcohol products from France and other EU countries, the European Commission decided to postpone the countermeasures until mid-April.
