The Basic Law renewed with the participation of millions of Belarusians became the foundation for building a truly people’s state, in which caring for a person is the priority of the policy pursued.
This is stated in the text of congratulations to the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in connection with the Day of the Constitution of the country on March 15.
A society of equal opportunities is being created in Belarus, the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens is ensured, the family institution is strengthened, the youth support system is operating, healthcare, science and education are actively developing, its press service quotes Lukashenko.
According to the president, the state provides assistance to the spiritual revival, preservation of cultural heritage and interfaith dialogue.
“In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the provisions of the Constitution aimed at preserving the historical truth about the sacred feat of the Belarusian people are of particular importance. This truth about the heroes defending the freedom of the Motherland should be known and remembered,” the head of state noted.
The President expressed the conviction that patriotism, cohesion, fidelity to constitutional principles and values will be the key to prosperity and independence of the country.
One of the key dates in the history of sovereign Belarus is March 15, 1994. On this day, the Constitution was adopted, which for the first time in the history of Belarusian statehood secured the status of the republic as a unitary democratic social law state, the Belarusian State Media notes. This document laid a strong legal foundation of independence, implemented the desire of the Belarusian people to be a full master on their native land.
The action of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the procedure for its change are defined in section VIII Basic Law.
The first changes and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus were made as a result of the republican referendum held on November 24, 1996.
The third referendum on the issue of amendments and additions to the Constitution was held on February 27, 2022 at the initiative of the President of Belarus. For adoption of changes and additions of the Constitution, 4,440,830 citizens voted, which amounted to 82.86 percent of those who participated in the vote of citizens.
