President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed a law on ratification of an agreement with Russia on the treatment of the worked out nuclear fuel (OIT), which provides for its processing in the Russian Federation. The corresponding document was published on Thursday on the National Legal Internet portal.
“The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus to take measures necessary for the implementation of the provisions of the Agreement,” the document is indicated.
The bill was adopted in one reading by deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on April 18 and a day later was approved by the Council of the Republic. Signed Lukashenko Law dated May 5.
The document establishes a mechanism for the import of irradiated heat -eating assemblies of nuclear reactors to Russia for temporary technological storage with subsequent processing, as well as a return to Belarus of radioactive waste. Warranties are provided for by Minsk to receive radioactive waste and readiness of the corresponding infrastructure.
The agreement will allow, as a result of processing radioactive waste (RAO), reduce their volume in comparison with the direct burial of the spent fuel.
