French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to consolidate the special status of the Corsican community and gave supporters of independence and right on the island for six months to coordinate the text on autonomy.
Speaking in the Parliament of Corsica, Macron called on the parties to work together in the process of recognizing the “specific Corsican autonomy” in the French constitution.
According to Macron, the agreed text should not include the requirements that are considered the “red line” of the extreme right -wing France.
In response to the requirement to give the Corsican language the official status, Macron proposed to better spread this language among the inhabitants.
The French president said that he is positive about the demand of independence supporters of the “legal recognition of the Corsican people” and that the “clear” article on this subject could be included in the Constitution.
