French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Algeria next week in an attempt to improve relations between the two countries, reports AFP.
Relations between France and Algeria cooled at the end of 2021, after the French leader doubted whether Algeria existed as a state before the French invasion. Algeria in response withdrew his ambassador.
“This trip will contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations aimed at the future, strengthen the Franco -Algerian cooperation in the face of regional challenges and continue to overcome the past,” the administration of the President of France said.
Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Algeria will be the second as the head of state after a brief trip in December 2017.
