The International Atomic Energy Agency (Magate) reported that the new protective dome over the 4th reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was struck by the drone, which caused a fire on the roof of the dome.
The statement posted on the agency in X said that on Friday night there was an explosion on the roof of the dome, which was built in 2016 to protect the remaining structures of the 4th reactor after the 1986 nuclear disaster.
It is stated that the Ukrainian authorities informed the agency that the drone was struck by the protective dome, which led to the fire. The fire was eliminated by firefighters, and it is specified that the drone did not damage the inside of the dome, and the radiation levels both inside and outside the reactor remained within normal.
The statement also emphasizes that no one was injured as a result of the incident. The agency noted that the IAEA inspectors are closely monitoring the development of the situation.
