March 31 – Azerbaijani Genocide Day

In Azerbaijan, on March 31, they honor the memory of the victims of mass massacre, taught by Armenians and Bolsheviks in March 1918. Up to 50 thousand inhabitants of the country were victims of the massacre.

Events of 106 years ago are considered one of the bloodiest pages in the history of Azerbaijan.

In the last years of the existence of tsarist Russia, Armenians, previously resettled to various regions of Azerbaijan, took advantage of the crisis of power and began to seize the lands of Azerbaijanis, exterminating the population of villages and villages.

since 1905, the Armenians were actively armed, destabilizing the situation in various regions of Azerbaijan, especially in Baku.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the Bolsheviks seized power in Baku.

gangs of Armenians and Bolsheviks, supported by the Armenian leader of the Bolsheviks Stepan Shaumyan, strengthened attacks on Azerbaijanis.

from March 30 to April 30, 1918, Armenian and Bolshevik gangs killed 50 thousand Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamami, Guba, Khachmaz, Linkyaran, Hajigul, Salyan, Zangesure, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and other regions of Azerbaijan.

Armenians managed to stop only after the arrival of the Caucasian Islamic Army in Azerbaijan, formed at the direction of the Military Minister of the Ottoman state Enver Pasha.

In Azerbaijan, the events of 1918 received a clear definition – genocide against the Azerbaijani people.

Date on March 31 annually celebrates in Azerbaijan as the Day of the Azerbaijani genocide, the corresponding decree was signed by former President Heydar Aliyev on March 26, 1998.
