Mass burial in Khojavend: Prosecutor General’s Office initiates a criminal case

In connection with the detection of mass burials in the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan, which was released from the occupation of the village of Khojavender, in the territory of the village of Khojavender, under articles 115.4, 120.2.1, 120.2.7 and 120.2.12 of the Criminal Code, the Azerbaijan Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

According to the report, the investigation found that during the First Karabakh war, the armed formations of the illegal Armenian separatist regime and the Armed Forces of Armenia, which carried out illegal activities in Azerbaijan, were roughly violated by the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, including the requirements of Article 17 of the Geneva Convention dated August 12, 1949. In 1993, 25 prisoners, presumably Azerbaijani troops, were killed and buried by the Armenians in the village of Edily Khojavender district.

During the investigation on the territory of Edilly on February 23-26, 2022, the remains of seven people were discovered and seized from mass burials, and 18 people on September 14-30, 2022. The remains were sent to a molecular genetic examination.

The report notes that a resident of the Fizuli district Shikhaliev Shamsi Gianammed Oglu, who from August 28, 1994, was captured in Armenia from August 28, 1994, was recognized as a resident in the criminal case. Investigative measures in the criminal case continue.
