MasterCard leads the processes of digitalization of payments in Azerbaijan, making digital transformation part of everyday life. Cashless Azerbaijan (Cashless Azerbaijan) – a program that was launched several years ago – completely changed the financial landscape, making payment processes transparent, simple, and strengthened the country’s economy. Contactly payments have become popular in Azerbaijan along with an increase in trust in technology.
While smartphones have become larger than a means of communication and are used by people to attend various events, dinner, now they have also turned into holders of loyalty cards and bank cards.
From today, MasterCard owners in Azerbaijan will be able to add their cards to Google Wallet and pay using their Android phones and other smart devices, where contactless payments are accepted.
Avshar Gürdal, CEO of MasterCard for Turkey and Azerbaijan, said that the number of payment cards has doubled since the launch of the Cashid Azerbaijan program. “We are determined to lead Azerbaijan to the non -cash -cashier future. Therefore, all our projects and plans serve to create an infrastructure of digital and non -cash future. From the beginning of the pandemic, we have implemented a number of projects in the country, which led to an increase in the number of non -cash payments and increasing the level of informing and confidence among final users . The volume of operations through POS-terminals increased from 2.6 billion to 11 billion manat, the share of e-commerce has increased from 9% to 30%. This growth rate means more than 10 times an increase in the volume of e-commerce over the past 4 years.
If we analyze the last half of the century, then the next 5 years promise large -scale changes. So, in 2025, almost half of the country’s population will use the mobile Internet, 85% of all Internet connections will be carried out through smartphones, and until 2025, about a million additional mobile users are expected. In countries with a high level of penetration of mobile contactless communication, the total volume of contactless payments reached 90 percent. I must note that 82% of POS devices in Azerbaijan accept contactless payments, and smartphones are also POS devices. As in Shemakh, where we launched our project, contactless cards and smartphones will also become a means of payment for public transport. “
“Google Wallet is a quick, simple and safe way to pay using any Android or Smart Smart – Devices,” says Jenny Chang, Vice President and General Director of Google Wallet. “Click and travel on the train, click to pay in the store, get an easy access to your landing coupon, save your loyalty cards and much more.
