The Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation at the 575th plenary meeting on Wednesday, September 25, unanimously elected Valentin Matvienko as chairman of the upper house of parliament.
According to the SF site, the candidacy of Valentina Matvienko was introduced by the deputy chairman of the SF, the oldest by age, Senator Yuri Vorobyov, who noted that under her leadership the Federation Council became recognizable and authoritative.
Valentina Matvienko thanked the senators for the support. “I am proud that I work with such a professional team tuned to achieve results. I am grateful to President Vladimir Putin for supporting the initiatives and actions of the Federation Council. We are all working in the president’s team. Our parliamentary shoulder is always reliable in making important government decisions, in their implementation,”, she said.
Matvienko has been holding the post of chairman of the SF from 2011. On a single voting day in St. Petersburg, the elections of the city governor were held, according to the results of which Alexander Beglov won. At the inauguration ceremony, he signed a decision on the appointment of Valentina Matvienko as a representative in the Federation Council from the executive body of state power of the city of St. Petersburg.
The Council of the Federation Council appointed Vladimir Yakushev to the post of first deputy upper house.
