The discussion of Moldova’s membership in NATO currently has no prospects due to the prolonged influence of Russian propaganda, which destroyed public support for this step. So said the President of Moldova Maya Sandu, BBC reports.
“When we see what Russia is doing, it becomes clear that neutrality does not protect us. However, there is no public support for changes in this … Despite this, such an opportunity is not a matter for a discussion in Moldova,” said Sandu.
Sandu admitted that in Moldova there is no public consensus on the question of whether it is worth applying for NATO membership, and the fault of this, according to her, is Russian propaganda.
Also, at the Munich conference, Sandu said that Russia was waging a hybrid war against Moldova, using economic pressure and propaganda. According to her, the purpose of Russian interference in Moldova’s affairs was to destabilize society and bring people to the streets to change power and create a pro -Russian government.
Sandu asked for help in air observation and defense, but at the same time said that she did not see the immediate threat of invasion of Moldova from Russia.
