In the retail outlets of Baku, in recent days, meat has risen in price again: beef on the cattle -beams costs up to 14 manat, up to 17 manat peeled from bones. In large supermarkets, the price of beef ranges from 15 to 20 manat. Baranina is also getting more expensive – you have to lay out 15-16 manat per kilogram.
Nevertheless, according to the report of the food and agricultural organization of the United Nations (FAO), over the past three months, world prices for meat are steadily reduced. In July, compared with June, a decrease was recorded by 0.5 percent, in August, compared to July, 1.5 percent, in September, compared to August, by 0.5 percent.
The haqqin.az correspondent reported that over the past two weeks in the markets in the regions have increased livestock prices. The butchers selling Ganja Avenue in the Khatainsky district of Baku said that the live weight of beef costs about 12.5 manat. Transportation of the animal is also added to this price, mascara processing after slaughter and other expenses. According to butchers, selling a kilogram of meat is cheaper than 14 manat is simply unprofitable.
Last week, a kilogram of beef in a live weight cost 11 manat in a traditional Saturday market in Agdasha. On the cattle -beams in the area of beef was sold for 12 manat, lamb – for 14 manat. “A few days ago, the prices for beef rose to 13 manat, and now it has become more expensive,” says Elshan Aliyev, an animal breeder from the village of Lyaki, the Agdash district.
Speaking about food prices, Elshan Aliyev noted that a kilogram of barley costs 50-60 gyapik, clover-5-6 manat. “Because of the problem with irrigation, most farmers cannot provide themselves with winter feeds,” the livestock breeder complains. “So you have to sell cattle at low prices. Otherwise, the meat would cost more.”
The same prices are observed in the market in Bard. One of the intermediaries, engaged in this area of bought-sales of livestock, said that last week he sold a 70-kilogram animal for 800 manat.
According to official statistics, in January-August of this year, meat production in Azerbaijan was 364.2 thousand tons. This is 2.9 percent more than in the corresponding period of 2021. Import increased. So, in January -August, 26 thousand 149 tons of meat were imported to Azerbaijan – 1.8 percent more than the same period last year.
Expert economist Khalid Kerimly explained that there are two main reasons for the growth in meat prices. “First of all, prices are affected by the rise in the cost of feed. In large livestock farms, not only hay and clover are used, but also various additives. They are imported from abroad and have risen in price significantly over the past year. 70 percent of the cost of meat form food costs. Clover has risen in price. , barley, pressed hay, ”said the expert.
According to Karimley, Ukraine is traditionally a source of import of cheap meat into Azerbaijan. But after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, it became difficult to deliver meat from this country, now it is imported from other countries.
The Ministry of Agriculture said that they do not participate in the regulation of meat prices, since its market price is determined on the basis of supply and supply.
