Meeting of National Security Council ended in Ankara

In Ankara on Thursday, June 8, the first meeting of the Turkish National Security Council was held after the May elections.

A meeting of the Council in a new composition began at 16.00 local time, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In the discussions, along with the head of state, Vice President Jewdad Yilmaz, Minister of Justice Yylmaz Tunch, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlika, the Minister of National Defense Yashar Guler, the commander of the Ground Forces, the acting Head of the General Staff Musa Avsever, commander of the Navy Admiral Erzhoument Tatlyoglu and the commander of the Air Force Atilla Gulan, head of the National Intelligence Organization of Turkey (Mi̇t) Ibrahim Kalyn.

After the end of the meeting, the official statement of the National Security Council is extended.

The statement notes that the Russian-Ukrainian war increases risks for the region. Türkiye will continue to contribute to efforts in peace negotiations.

Regarding the situation with Syrian refugees, the Turkish CNB believes that it is important, within the framework of international cooperation, to ensure a voluntary, safe and worthy return of the Syrians who are saved from conflicts.

SNB emphasizes that Ankara supports the dialogue process in order to prevent the development of tension into Kosovo into a crisis.
