Meloni criticizes Macron for dinner with Zelensky in Paris on eve of EU summit

Italian Prime Minister George Meloni accused France of jeopardizing the unity of the EU in Ukraine, organizing dinner with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in Paris, to which other European leaders were not invited.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Sholts met with Vladimir Zelensky on Wednesday evening on the eve of the EU summit. Meloni on Thursday, in an interview with reporters, called the meeting inappropriate, and on Friday strengthened her criticism.

“What was right was the photograph of Zelensky with 27 EU leaders. To anticipate this meeting in Paris was politically wrong,” she said at the end of the summit in Brussels.

Commenting on the statements of the Italian Prime Minister on Thursday, Emmanuel Macron said that, in his opinion, dinner on Wednesday was appropriate, and the choice of a schedule of meetings remains with the Ukrainian president.

“As you know, Germany and France have played a special role in Ukraine for eight years, – Macron told reporters.” The main thing is that we are effective together, and that we have a strategy that allows you to find the way to the solid world ” .

Meloni nevertheless met with Zelensky on the sidelines of the summit in Brussels.
