Mexico Enhances Border Protection With United States

Mexico authorities began the deployment of additional military units on the border with the United States after Washington temporarily suspended the introduction of new customs duties in exchange for strengthening border security.

President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum at a press conference reported that the country’s armed forces have already begun deployment.

According to the president, units of the National Guard, previously served in less problematic regions, were sent to the border.

At the same time, the Shanbaum assured that such a redistribution of forces “would not leave the rest of the country without protection.”

According to the Mexican Army, additional forces are directed to “support the units that have already been deployed on the border, in order to suppress the smuggling of fentanil and other drugs, illegal migration in the United States, as well as the illegal import of firearms into Mexico.”

In addition, the statement emphasizes that 6,310 fighters of the National Guard and 2,700 military personnel have already been sent to the border with the United States. Additional forces are deployed in the border states of Lower California, Sonora, Chiuaaa and Tamaulipas.
