Mexico President: Migrants Will Be Sent Back To Countries

Illegal migrants who come to Mexico in order to get to the United States will be sent back to countries of their origin. This was President Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum said at a briefing in the National Palace in Mexico City.

“There is an agreement with all the countries of Central America, especially with Guatemala, and recently a meeting has been held for this purpose. There is an agreement with Cuba. Illegal migrants should be expelled directly to where Mexico came from, and not to the territory of Mexico,” the head emphasized state.

At the same time, the president assured that humanitarian assistance will be provided to illegal migrants in Mexico. “The fact is that if these people are on the territory of Mexico, we will give them attention to humanitarian reasons, but within the framework of our migration policy we want them to return to the country of origin, because they are foreigners,” Shanbaum said.

The President noted that the Mexico authorities are negotiating with the US officials regarding the situation of migrants.

The head of state added that since she came to power, first of all encouraged the voluntary repatriation of migrants.

After the inauguration ceremony, US President Donald Trump attracted attention to the situation with migrants in the country and announced a state of emergency on the US border and Mexico, as in 2019, saying that he would prevent illegal migration and deport illegal immigrants.
