President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum said that she did not support the idea of building a wall on the border with the United States, proposed by the American leader Donald Trump.
Speaking at a daily briefing in the National Palace, the Sheinbaum emphasized that instead of the construction of barriers, Mexico City appears for a bilateral dialogue.
She also denied reports that the construction of the wall would be financed at the expense of Mexico. “We have not concluded any agreements on this issue with the United States,” said Shanbaum.
“It is necessary to build not walls, but bridges”
Mexican President emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and economic integration with the United States instead of creating physical barriers.
“The construction of the wall is, of course, the decision with which we disagree with. The new railway bridge in Nuevo -Ledo, which connects the center of Mexico with Canada, is a good symbol. We need to build not walls, but bridges”.
According to American sources, the idea of erecting a wall along the border with Mexico has been discussed in the United States since the 1940s, although the most actively this topic has been raised during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Anadolu filming on February 1 captured a section of the controversial border wall, the construction of which was started in 2018 by decision of Trump, but was never completed.
