Militants seized a prison and freed hundreds of prisoners

In northeastern Somalia, militants from the terrorist group Al-Shabab seized a prison in the city of Bossaso and freed hundreds of prisoners. This was reported by the Somali portal Garowe.

Eight people were killed during the shootout. The militants managed to take control of the entire building before reinforcements arrived at the guards and recaptured the prison.

In turn, the radio station Dalsan reports that the militants have released more than 400 prisoners in the prison. Most of them are Islamists awaiting trial. The prison in the port city of Bossaso is the largest in the Somali state of Puntland.
