Minister Bayractar: We Want To Establish Partnerships With Turkmenistan

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayractar announced his intention to establish a partnership with Turkmenistan in the development of oil and gas fields.

According to the Ministry of the Ministry, Bayractar spoke at the International Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation in the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabada.

During the visit, Bayractar met with the chairman of the Hulk Maslahata (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the president of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymuhamedov.

The Minister recalled that 2025 was declared the International Year of Peace and Security on the initiative of Turkmenistan at the UN, and emphasized the need to expand cooperation in the energy sector.

Bayractar noted that the only way to overcome the difficulties arising is long -term partnerships based on mutual trust. He also added that Turkey’s energy strategy is built on two key challenges and the first is energy security.

The minister noted that the energy consumption of Turkey has tripled over the past 20 years and in the next 20 years will grow by about 5 percent annually.

The second challenge, according to him, is energy independence.

The head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized that Türkiye has developed a comprehensive energy strategy, in which regional partnerships play an important role.

Türkiye began imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan

The minister recalled that on March 1, Türkiye took a historical step, starting the import of natural gas from Turkmenistan.

“Thus, we first import natural gas through a pipeline from a country that is not our immediate neighbor. This step is important not only from the point of view of gas import diversification, but also in terms of the supply of Turkmen gas to the west,” he said.

Increase in electricity trade

Bayractar expressed the hope that in the future the construction of a Trans -Caspian gas pipeline will supply more natural gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey and Europe.

He also noted great opportunities for cooperation in the oil and gas sector, including Upstream, which will make the gas infrastructure even more significant.

“For this reason, we want to create a partnership with Turkmenistan in the development of oil and gas fields both in the country itself and in the Caspian Sea,” he added.

The minister emphasized that Türkiye also intends to expand cooperation with neighboring countries in the field of electric power.

The Minister also discussed current energy projects between the two countries with the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan for the oil and gas sector Batyr Amanov and the head of the company Turkmengaz Maksat Babaev.
