Minister Of Energy Of Turkey: We Are Against Any Decisions That Will Affect Gas Supplies From Russia

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayractar, touching on the US sanctions list against Gazprombank, said: “We are against any decisions that will affect gas supply from Russia. This decision may damage the Turkish economy, households and 85 million people. < /p>

He answered questions from representatives of the press in London, where he is negotiating.

Bayractar said that on November 29 they had a very productive meeting with Ed Miliband, Minister of Energy Security and Pure Production of Great Britain, following which a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two countries.

noting that Türkiye and Great Britain have many common interests in the field of energy, the minister said that global investors of the energy sector and representatives of financial institutions also took part in the meetings.

According to him, Türkiye sets itself the tasks of improving the climate and transforming the economy, and that industry should be ready to increase export to Europe. He recalled that Türkiye plans to increase its power by wind and solar energy from 30 gigavatts to 120 gigavatts.

– UK is ready to provide Turkey funding in the amount of £ 2 billion

The Minister stated that investors and financial institutions showed great interest in Turkey’s plans: “I am sure that in the near future we will attract more financing to our economy.”

He added that in the next 10-11 years, the renewable sources of Turkish energy will need to invest about $ 108 billion, in this regard, the UK export financing (UK Export Finance/UKEF) plans to provide Turkey with funding in the amount of £ 2 billion in the amount Projects in three main areas.

These are projects 24 thousand megavatt of the power of renewable energy sources, offshore wind energy and the creation of zones of renewable energy sources (YEKA).

Another important issue between Turkey and Great Britain is small modular nuclear reactors: “We are working on a program for the development of atomic energy with a capacity of 20 thousand megawatts and strive to ensure that 5 thousand megavatts of them make up the capacities of small modular nuclear reactors.”

Bayractar also said that Türkiye intends to create a legal framework for small modular nuclear reactors next year.
