Energy Minister Parviz Shakhbazov took part in the 23rd meeting of the Ministers of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (FSEG – Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which passed in video conferencing format.
The press service of the Ministry of Energy, HaqQin.Az, was told that in his speech the Minister expressed continued support for Azerbaijan with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the world and combating climate change. As an example of the steps taken in this context, it was noted that the directions that strengthen the positions of renewable energy sources in the energy balance were reflected in national priorities and strategies for the country’s socio-economic development, as well as the performance of Azerbaijan with new goals at the UN conference on change Climate (COP26) in Glasgow.
It was noted that Azerbaijan once again announced its commitment to the global goal of conservation of global warming at the level of 1.5 degrees Celsius, enshrined by the Paris Agreement and supported by the Climatic Glasgow Pact.
The Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan also noted the important role of natural gas as a source of low carbon energy in the energy transformation and the increasing value of hydrocarbons in ensuring energy security against the background of the current energy crisis: “Without diversification of energy, sustainable energy supply is impossible, and the diversity of energy resources, as always, is a guarantee Stability in the energy market is now in the future. We believe that maintaining the energy balance of hydrocarbons is vital for stability to the shocks, which lead to energy crises. We also believe that a fair energy transition can be possible not by the output of traditional energy sources from operation, and together with it. “
Stressing that the energy policy of Azerbaijan always pursues the goal to serve energy security, stability, international cooperation and development in the world, the minister said that the “South Gas Corridor” is a contribution to such policies. For ten months of this year, Azerbaijan exported more than 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas on this route, about half of this volume was used by European consumers.
Note that Azerbaijan has been participating in the forum of gas exporters in the observer status.
