Minsk And Baku Deepen Cooperation In Field Of Environmental Protection

Belarus and Azerbaijan determined the directions of cooperation in the field of environmental protection at 2025-2026.

The relevant program was signed by the leaders of the environmental departments of the two countries Sergey Maslyak and Mukhtar Babaev in the fields of the 29th session of the conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Belarus said.

Today, the head of the Belarusian environmental department, Sergei Maslyak, met with his Azerbaijani colleague Mukhtar Babaev. The meeting took place on the fields of one of the largest international events of this year – the 29th session of the conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is currently chaired Azerbaijan Republic in the city of Baku, ”follows from the publication of the press service.

During negotiations, the parties discussed in detail the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation on the climatic agenda, mutually recognizing the high potential and relevance of this direction.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers signed a working program on the implementation of an interdepartmental agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection concluded in 2019.

The program is designed for 2025 – 2026 and covers spheres such as mitigating the consequences of climate change, the fight against illegal international trade, the fight against invasive species of animals and plants, the compilation of geological maps, and the treatment of production waste (including hazardous waste) , restriction of production and use of plastic and more.

Sergei Maslyak also invited his Azerbaijani colleague to take part in the EcologyExpo exhibition, which will be held in 2025.
