Minsk Stated Protest Of Japan’s Office In Connection With “espionage Activity” Of Japanese Citizen

Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated a protest of Japan Hiroyuki Yamamoto in connection with a Japanese citizen in the country of “spy activity”. This was announced by the press secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Anatoly Eye, whose words are quoted by the Belarusian foreign policy.

“On September 6, 2024, the Ambassador of Japan Hiroyuki Yamamoto was called to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The head of the Japanese diplomatic mission was declared a protest in connection with the recently detained citizen of Japan in our country of espionage activities that caused the damage to the security of the Republic of Belarus,” the eye said.

According to him, at the moment the investigation of this case is at the final stage, and the measure of responsibility for the crimes committed will be determined by the court in full accordance with Belarusian legislation.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus also considered it unlawful “publicly declared by the Japanese side the requirements to hide this crime from the public and not demonstrate in the media.”

“In this context, all the more, a protest looks like a demonstration of a film that reveals the criminal nature of the acts of a Japanese citizen. All investigative procedures were carried out in full accordance with Belarusian legislation and all international legal norms. Consular access was provided for the detainee, Comfortable conditions for its detention are known to the Japanese side, it is provided with protection, voluntarily cooperates with the investigation and comes into contact with the media, ”said the eye.

Belarus does not refuse further contacts with the Japanese side in this case and emphasizes the unacceptability of any actions of foreign intelligence services that violate the country’s sovereignty, summarized the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, Belarusian media reported the detention of a Japanese agent, who, according to them, “had the most extensive interests” in the country.
