President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emir Katar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Tanya agreed to bring bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership.
In Tashkent, a meeting of Mirziyoyev with the Qatari emir took place.
The parties discussed the further strengthening of political dialogue, the expansion of trade, economic, investment and cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
Mirziyoyev and Al Tanya, with satisfaction, noted the ongoing intensive contacts and exchanges at all levels. This year, diplomatic missions of the two countries in the cities of Tashkent and Doha opened. Mutual trade volumes are growing, the implementation of large projects with the participation of leading Qatari companies has begun.
The interlocutors paid special attention to the promotion of new joint investment projects, in particular in the areas of “green” energy, industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, banking and financial sector, in the field of education, healthcare, tourism.
The leaders of the two countries also examined the ways to further expand cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. In particular, the Qatari side expressed full support for the project of the construction of the Transafgan railway.
The meeting emphasized the importance of organizing the first meetings of the joint intergovernmental commission, business council and business forum in February 2024 in the city of Doha.
The parties also discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian events next year.
In order to ensure timely execution of agreements, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar advocated the creation of the Coordinating Council at the level of the heads of foreign policy departments of the two countries.
A exchange of views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda also took place.
