President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the Constitutional referendum in the country
The head of the Uzbek state voiced such a statement at a meeting with the heads of the chambers of Oliy Mazhlis, political parties, judicial and executive authorities, the press secretary of the President Sherzod Assadov said on social networks.
“For the first time we adopted an updated constitution on the basis of a popular referendum. The referendum in practice showed how the political consciousness, legal culture and worldview of our people have grown,” Mirziyoyev noted.

Mirziyev noted that the decision of the people forms a strong basis for the further stable development of statehood and the economy of the Central Asian country.

Mirziyoev said that the norm in the first article of the updated constitution that Uzbekistan is a sovereign, democratic, legal, social and secular state, “has historical significance.”
According to him, these principles are five foundations that determine the path of development and fate, the future of the country, will never change.

The referendum on the Constitution in the new edition took place in Uzbekistan on April 30. According to official figures, more than 90 percent of the vote was cast for changing the constitution.
