Mirziyoyev: Uzbekistan Intends To Expand Contribution To Overcoming Consequences Of Global Climatic Changes

Uzbekistan intends to expand its practical contribution to the joint overcoming of the consequences of global climatic changes. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyov, speaking at the 29th session of the conference of the parties to the UN Framular Convention on Climate Change (SOR29).

expressing gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for organizing an event at a high level, Shavkat Mirziyev noted the support of Azerbaijani efforts to expand international cooperation to combat global climatic challenges.

The head of Uzbekistan emphasized that climate changes have a direct impact on the strengthening of geopolitical tension and aggravation of food and energy safety problems, access to water and resources, especially in Central Asia. In this regard, he recalled the goals of Uzbekistan for the implementation of the Paris Agreement: as part of the National Strategy, Uzbekistan seeks to limit the increase in temperature in the region to 1.5-2 degrees and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, as well as increase the share of “green” Energy up to 40%, ”said the president.

Mirziyoyev proposed a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening global cooperation. Among them is the creation of the International Center for Evaluation of Climate Losses and Damage, as well as the Alliance of the Climate Caps in the World for the exchange of advanced knowledge in the field of sustainable development of megacities. He also advocated the adoption of a declaration under the auspices of the UN of the obligations to protect the health and ecology of river ecosystems, reminding of the tragedy of the Aral Sea as one of the visual examples of climatic consequences for the region.

The President of Uzbekistan proposed creating a regional bank of genetic resources to increase the sustainability of agricultural crops, as well as launch an innovative UN agro -industrial hub in the country for no access to the sea.

In addition, Shavkat Mirziyoev invited representatives of the countries to the global festival of digital “green” initiatives, which will be held in the Aral Sea Region on May 15 of next year, on International Climate Day.

In the conclusion of the speech, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized the country’s readiness for open dialogue and partnership on the way to general well -being and “green” development.
