Mishustin: By 2060, Russian Federation Plans To Reach Carbon Neutrality

Russia is building its own technologies and production for the decarbonization of industry. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, speaking at the UN climate conference in Baku.

He noted that Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, is actively involved in measures that takes the international community to confront global climate change in order to ensure the well -being of future generations.

“We managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than two times from the 1990 level. By 2060, we plan to reach carbon neutrality. We are focusing on increasing energy efficiency, developing electric vehicles, introducing modern solutions into rural and forestry”, – said Mishustin.

He noted that in Russia, 85% of the energy balance is already in pure, low -emission generation. This is primarily gas, atomic, energy from renewable sources.

“We increase our own technologies and production capacities for the decarbonization of industries. We also use natural capabilities. We have a fifth of global forest resources. The volume of absorption exceeds 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year,” the head of the Russian government said.

On the fields of the climatic summit in Baku, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation met with the General Secretary of the UN Antoniu Gutherrish.

In Baku on November 11-22, the 29th conference of the participants of the UN Framular Convention on Climate Change (SOR-29).
