Marseille Brown, mistakenly convicted of murder in Chicago, the USA, will be paid compensation of $ 50 million.
Brown was convicted of murder at the age of 18 and was in prison. He was released almost 10 years later in 2018 after it turned out that he was innocent.
34-year-old Brown won the trial, which he filed after the release. By court decision, Brown will be paid compensation in the amount of $ 50 million.
According to the case file, his lawyer argued that Brown’s constitutional rights were violated during the trial in which he was accused of murder.
The case file says that Brown was not allowed to talk with a lawyer or with his family when he was detained. It is claimed that the authorities who were led by Brown made him give false testimonies, interrogating him during the day.
Speaking to the building of the Federal Court of Dirksen after the announcement of the sentence, Brown said: “Justice against me and my family finally triumphed.”
