Moldova legislatively banned characters “z” and “v”, as well as George Ribbon

Moldova Parliament in the Third Reading adopted the law, according to which the use of Georgievsky tapes, symbols “Z” and “V” are prohibited, as well as any signs that are associated with the military actions of Russia in Ukraine.

It is reported that amendments to the Code of Offenses on the ban on “well-known attributes and symbols”, which are used in the context of hostilities in Ukraine, supported 53 deputies.

Initiative provides fines of 4500 to 9000 lei (from 250 to 500 dollars) for the manufacture, public use or promotion of extremist or military symbolism.

According to the bill, under the “well-known attributes and symbols” should be understood:

* Colored flags, stripes and ribbons (black and orange two-color – Georgievskaya tape);

* emblems (graphics, letters, such as “z” and “v”, or numbers and their combinations);

* Breastplates, uniforms, slogans, greetings, as well as any other similar signs of differences used by participants of hostilities.

The authors of the bill believe that the prohibition is necessary in the conditions of war in Ukraine and increasing the use of these symbols in Moldova.
