Moldova parliament supported the denunciation of an agreement on technical barriers in the field of free trade in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The bill was adopted on Friday in the first reading, reports Moldipres.
The document is proposed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. According to the authors, this agreement has lost its relevance after a large -scale process of bringing the relevant standards to EU standards began in Moldova.
“After the implementation of Chapter 3 of Section V Trade and the aspects of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EU related to trade, the Republic of Moldova took the necessary measures to gradually ensure the compliance of internal policy to the goals of the EU in the field of technical regulations, standards, metrology, accreditation, evaluation compliance and supervision of the market, ”the information note of the bill says.
As a result, the system implemented by Moldova in the field of technical barriers in trade is significantly different from the systems of the CIS countries.
According to the authors, the denunciation of the agreement will not entail neither the political consequences at the domestic, regional and multilateral levels, nor a financial and economic nature, since Moldova has no financial or other obligations that would not have arisen during its action and which were not repaid.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration will notify the CIS Executive Committee of the termination of the agreement.
