Morocco authorities refused Russia to help the sanctions of Western countries. Moscow was negotiating on the creation of two transport hubs in Morocco, from where the goods would go to Russian ports, but Rabat refused Russia’s offers, writes The Moscow Times with reference to sources participating in the negotiations and a representative of the Ministry of Transport.
According to the publication, the Russian side invited the local authorities to create two transport hubs for the re -export of goods to Russia – we are talking about the ports of Casablanca and Tanger. Purchases were proposed to be carried out through a specially created structure – the so -called trading house. Russia hoped that Morocco would be able to replace the Russian Federation with European ports that closed for it after imposing sanctions. The plan involved the creation of a transport line between Casablanca and St. Petersburg. Morocco would accept containers from ocean tankers and move them to smaller (feeder) vessels that would have already taken to Russia. Such a scheme would help to quickly increase import, including sanctions goods to Russia.
The sources of the publication claim that the Caspian Sea is the plan of the Russian government. “The Caspian ports will open a second wind,” said one of the logists who participated in the negotiations, without specifying what time the Russia will be able to significantly increase imports along this route.
