The All -Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) filed a lawsuit in the sports arbitration court (CAS) to receive compensation from the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) of $ 76 million for the abolition of the World Cup in Russia, RIA Novosti said in the organization.
The World Cup was supposed to be held on August 26 – September 11, 2022 in 10 Russian cities. On March 1, 2022, FIVB reported that the tournament will be postponed from Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. The lawsuit against the International Federation was filed on April 28, 2023. On May 3, CAS notified FIVB about the beginning of the proceedings and gave her 20 days to provide a brief review of the claim.
The amount of requirements is at least 76,393,595 dollars and includes a reference reform for the right to hold the World Cup ($ 40 million), a fine for unilateral termination of the agreement to organize a tournament ($ 12 million), as well as reimbursement of the expenses of the VFV and the organizing committee for the preparation of the tournament (at least 23 million dollars).
