Thousands of people were marching on Friday in support of a Canadian Muslim family, killed by a man driving a pickup in the past Sunday. Police described the incident as a crime on the soil of hate, writes Reuters.
Four sacrifices covering three generations were killed by 20-year-old Nathaniel Weltman, when they came out on the evening walk near their home. A young man drove on passersby on his pickup. Only a 9-year-old boy survived all family members, his parents died in place.
Residents of the city of London in the province of Ontario, Canada, were marching about 7 kilometers from the place where the family was killed, to the nearest mosque, located near the place where Weltman was arrested by the police.
Some carried posters with inscriptions “Hate here is not at home”, “love will win hatred,” marches were held in other cities of Ontario, the most densely populated province of Canada.
Weltman spoke in court on Thursday and return to the court on Monday. He was charged with four accusations of the first degree murder and one – in the attempted murder.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Treudo called these murders to “terrorist attack” and promised to suppress extremely right-wing groups and Islamophobia on the Internet.
