Museum in New York “changed” nationality of Aivazovsky and Repin

The Metro Museum in New York called Russian painters Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin to Ukrainian artists.

This is evidenced by the data posted on the website of the American cultural institution.

This is not the first time of the change of nationality of representatives of Russia.

on the signature to the portrait of Vsevolod Garshin Repin, it is indicated that the author of the work is Ukrainian.

In addition, the article on Aivazovsky in the section on the nationality of the artist also indicates that he was a Ukrainian.

The deputies of the Verkhovna Rada drew attention to these changes.

This is not the first incident of this kind allowed by museum employees. Earlier, the museum renamed the picture of the French impressionist Edgar Deg “Russian Dancer” in the “Dancer in the Ukrainian outfit”. In addition, the museum recognized Arkhip Kuindi as an artist from Ukraine.

Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin were born during the Russian Empire in Feodosia (Tauride province of the Russian Empire, now Crimea, Ukraine) and Chuguev (Kharkov province of the Russian Empire, now the Kharkov region of Ukraine), respectively.
