NASA showed a “smiling” sun

NASA published in social networks a picture of a “merrily smiling” Sun, which the recently made a space observatory, watching the Sun since 2010 (NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatori – SDO). Scientists noticed this phenomenon after studying coronal holes on the star.

“These dark spots visible in ultraviolet light are known as coronal holes, of which a quick sun wind rushes into space,” the agency said.

Sunny “Smile” actually poses a danger to the Earth, writes Peta Pixel. Dark spots are a source of strong flow of solar wind, and during the day a powerful geomagnetic storm may fall on the planet, which poses a threat to the work of orbital satellites, radio networks and GPS.
