National counsel on television and radio warned TV channels

The National Council on Television and Radio held a meeting with the program directors of television channels and heads of news departments, which discussed non-compliance with the issues of the inviolability of personal life and the norms of professional ethics on the air.

The reason for the discussion was the violation of these rules in recent days on TV channels due to the sexual violence of a 11-year-old girl who gave birth to a child.

The chairman of NSTTARS NSTTARI noted that the open distribution of information on the personality of minors in connection with various criminal acts is incorrect from the point of view of professional ethics.

In the Code of Professional Ethics of Journalists of Azerbaijan and other countries, it is emphasized that if the children were subjected to sexual violence or committed a crime, their anonymity should be preserved in the media. It is impossible to show their faces, it is necessary to represent children under the conditional names and surnames, it is necessary to take measures to ensure that the victim of violence has not learned.
