“We have consent to the” distribution of roles “in NATO. The alliance as such provides Ukraine with non-lethal assistance, and the member states provide lethal weapons. In the end, which is more important for you: is this distribution? Or is the final result interesting, That is, helped by Ukraine? Therefore, I advise friends in Kyiv to perceive our help as a whole, ”said Joan.
He noted that if you take into account the overall picture, then Western democracies support Ukraine with weapons, in the field of protection against cyber attacks, counteracting misinformation, maintaining economic stability, already reserve money for the post -war restoration of Ukraine.
Joan added that Ukraine can also count on a gradual transition to weapons of Western samples, because the reserves of its Soviet reserves are drying out, and NATO will also play its role in this.
Mircea Joane said that the allies specifically distributed roles so that the meetings of the Ramstein format to support Ukraine are coordinated not through the alliance.
“When we agreed on such a distribution of tasks – the Alliance works with intellectual means, and the allies provide Ukraine with military support – this decision was intentional. This is an organization that has risks and we must carefully avoid the escalation and the possibility of war between Russia And NATO, which will not benefit anyone. Mircea Joan, added that this has additional advantages, since this avoids unnecessary bureaucracy, and speed is now important for Ukraine.
