NATO Council allowed provision of additional forces KFOR

NATO Council allowed the provision of additional forces to the NATO peacekeeping contingent in KFOR (KFOR) to stabilize the situation in the region.

This was announced by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

“We will carry out all the necessary measures to ensure a safe environment and continue the freedom of movement for the inhabitants of Kosovo. We will do it impartially and with the powers that we will receive from the UN,” the Secretary General said.

Stoltenberg recalled that the presence of KFOR has been strengthened since May, when tension was aggravated in the country. According to him, the NATO Council on Friday authorized the provision of additional forces in response to the current situation.

“We will continue to provide our command with the necessary resources and flexibility for the exercise of KFOR powers. If necessary, we are ready to make adjustments to the deployment of KFOR,” he stressed.

Stoltenberg again called the parties to the de -escalation of tension in Kosovo.
