NATO countries increased defense costs

Most NATO countries have reached the goal of allocating more than 2 percent of their gross domestic product (GDP) for defense. This is stated in the NATO report with forecasts of defense expenses of the Sovereign countries for 2024.

as follows from the report, the defense expenses of the allied countries in total increased to 1.47 trillion dollars.

The most of all the defense costs were increased by the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands and Spain, respectively.

The largest share of the defense budget (4.12 percent) was allocated by Poland – one of the countries, which most sharply experienced the negative consequences of the conflict of the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Poland with 3.43 percent follows Estonia, bordering the Russian Federation. The third place is occupied by the United States – 3.38 percent.

NATO goals for the allocation of at least 2 percent of GDP for defense could not achieve only Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.

Türkiye not only reached the goal, but also ahead of France. This goal was determined by NATO at a summit in Wales after the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014.

After the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg began to speak with similar calls.

On the eve of the head of the alliance, said that more than 20 NATO allies have reached the goal of allocating two percent of the defense budget.
