Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană today (7 December 2021) discussed the importance of mainstreaming gender perspectives across NATO’s agenda, from operations and missions to developing new capabilities and equipment.
“Making sure women’s voices are heard and gender considerations are reflected across the full spectrum of our activities is not just a nice to have, it is a must have for NATO,” the Deputy Secretary General said.
Mr Geoană was speaking at the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives’ annual conference, which brings together relevant military and civilian representatives working in this field. This year’s conference will focus on how the Alliance can integrate gender perspectives further into its current and future vision, through the NATO 2030 agenda, including in NATO’s next strategic concept which will be agreed at the NATO Summit in Madrid in June 2022.
“Keeping our people safe in a more competitive and connected world will require all of the tools and talents… at our disposal. Our work on Women, Peace and Security is integral to this, not an add-on,” Mr Geoană explained to this year’s delegates.
