NATO engaged in production of honey

NATO headquarters in Brussels took up the production of environmental honey. As the press service of the organization said on Monday, an experiment on the placement of an apiary from three hives on the territory of the Alliance headquarters was launched back in 2020, writes TASS.

If last year, the Bee in NATO was collected only about 25 kg of honey, then this year the press service of the Alliance reported a harvest of 60 kg, which is a high figure for Belgium, where 2021 considers unfortunate for the production of honey.

The territory of the new residence of the Alliance, located in the north-east of Brussels, takes more than 600 hectares. Thus, in addition to the very complex of headquarters (250,000 square meters of office space), parking, helicopter sites and auxiliary buildings, there was a place for its own small apiary.

The main part of the crop, packaged in 350 jars, was sold out in November at the traditional charitable market in NATO. The Jens Stoltenberg Secretary General also presented the postpraces of all 30 NATO countries with the Alliance on the Jar of NATO Honey at a meeting of the North Atlantic Council on December 15. The rest was bought by companies serving the canteens at the headquarters of the Alliance.

NATO’s press service noted that because the bees positively affect the stability of ecosystems, the Alliance intends to pay much attention to their protection, and from this year it will begin to hold seminars on beekeeping.
